Holt-Elwell Memorial Foundation
The purpose of the Holt-Elwell Memorial Foundation is to own, maintain and operate Camp Mowglis in order to promote education, training, traits of good character and qualities of leadership in boys and young men in accordance with the ideals and standards established and maintained by Elizabeth Ford Holt, the founder of Mowglis, and by Alcott Farrar Elwell, her successor and the owner and director for Mowglis for many years. Additionally, the HEMF is charged with providing scholarship assistance to worthy boys in the form of tuition grants or tuition reductions, in order to enable such boys to benefit by the summer camp experience.
The Holt-Elwell Memorial Foundation (HEMF) is a 501c-3 non-profit established in 1962 specifically to provide governance and financial support. The HEMF board of trustees is made up of Mowglis alumni along with former and current camp parents. Management of the board includes the enforcement of a conflict of interest policy and the adoption of a code of conduct among the board members.
The trustees hire the camp director and provide general oversight for the program. Although camp tuition covers the bulk of expenses, the HEMF receives hundreds of generous contributions each year from alumni, parents and friends. These donations are important to close the gap between tuition and expenses. The HEMF works hard to maintain the traditions of Mowglis and to give each boy an outstanding summer experience.
