The past camping season at Mowglis summer camp for boys in New Hampshire was one of our most wondrous. To say the boys were excited to return to our boys’ overnight camp after a challenging 2020 is an understatement. What are some of the highlights from our highly anticipated 2021 season? Our youngest campers, The Cubs, share some of their favorite memories.
The Cubs Boys Summer Camp Program Starts with a Bang
Camp began June 26th with the explosion of cannon shots across Newfound Lake. After masking up on our initial return to camp, things returned to normal after week two in our bubble, when masks were happily left behind. Counselors immediately got to task teaching the young Cubs self-sufficiency, coaching them through unpacking.
After a long period of isolation, the children reveled in the social interaction our overnight camp program offers, quickly forming friendships. The Cubs enthusiastically reported to their camping activities and sign-ups, including favorites riflery, archery, tubing, arts and crafts, and all things boating-related. Confidence grew every day with each new skill and words of encouragement from camp counselors.
“Today in archery, I got six bullseyes, and I can tell my arm is getting a lot stronger.”
–Ned, Kensington, MD
Summer Campers Meet New Challenges and Celebrate Triumphs
Thursday Trip Days brought with them opportunities for excitement and adventure, introducing the boys to new activities including the intense physical challenges of steep mountain trails. Reactions were mixed, ranging from enthusiasm to nervousness. Perseverance and resolve were tested and met with cheers and words of encouragement from our attentive camping staff. Campers shed tears, scaled physical, mental, and emotional mountains, growing into stronger Mowglis’ men.
“On Trip Day, we went to Mt. Cardigan. My best friend Xavier fell down, but when we got to the top, we got oatmeal with chocolate.”
–Paul, New York, NY
